Festival special guest, the Iranian film-maker Mohsen Makhmalbaf participated in a debate on the present and the future of the art cinema in Iran. Unfortunately, the questions took rapidly an (expected) turn, toward the political situation. This interest is completely understandable, but it is a pity not to take advantage of the presence of such an artiste to talk movies !Gani Jakupihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08470274238959882384noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5185562033211347091.post-43330418100677817702011-09-04T07:50:00.000-07:002011-09-04T07:52:33.503-07:00Lecture on the Iranian Cinema - Conférence sur le cinéma iranien

After a brief mention of some transcendental movies from the Shah's era, there came an overview of the iranian cinema from the islamic revolution up to the present (at least, this was the intention, but the time was limited). The production of Mohsen Makhmalbaf (invited by the festival), his daughters Samira and Hana, and his wife Marzieh Meshkini, is quite important. The other giant of the iranian cinema, Abbas Kiarostami is as well rather prolific. One can not avoid talking about directors as Jafar Panahi, Majid Majidi, Bahman Ghobadi... and so many others (Aghar Farhadi, Rafi Pitts, Bahram Bezai, Sohrab Shahid Saless, Tamineh Milani... maybe another time). The iranian art cinema being one of the most fecund in the world, there's work ahead!

During an afternoon, we will try to overview the chronological hot-spots of this specific New Wave, but also invite you to a reflection: is it a successfully ended revolution, or is there still more to come?
And nobody could help us better in finding the answer than one of the greatest living Iranian filmmaker, Mohsen Makhmalbaf, who will honor us with his presence.
